What if a State could create its own religion?
What if faith, devotion, miracles, and salvation didn’t come from heaven… but from a single family?
In North Korea, propaganda has transcended itself. It isn’t messaging. It isn’t politics. It isn’t ideology.
Propaganda has become Religion.
The Kim dynasty doesn’t govern this nation. It doesn’t rule it. It replaces God.
But how is such a religion actually built? How do you transform millions of human beings into believers? What are its sacred symbols, holy books, relics, and miracles? And how do you survive inside a nation where every detail—every word, every gesture—is part of a sacred ritual?
This is the journey of our storyteller: a journalist entering one of the most controlled societies on Earth, risking everything to decipher how a political cult became a living, breathing spiritual universe.

North Korea is the world’s most impenetrable fortress. A country where truth is manufactured, loyalty is choreographed, and every image released to outsiders is meticulously constructed. Yet, in an unexpected political opening, only five foreign journalists were invited to enter under strictly controlled conditions. Among them: Moez Ben Gharbia, a seasoned investigative reporter with decades of experience infiltrating dictatorships and authoritarian systems.
To penetrate this sealed universe, Moez adopted a calculated deception: he posed as a „communist journalist“ who admired North Korean ideology and wished to celebrate its cultural philosophy. This persona, risky and meticulously crafted, granted him unprecedented access—but placed him under constant surveillance and perpetual danger. Despite relentless monitoring, Moez filmed everything.
While filming in the presence of regime guides, he captured official footage of the state’s carefully constructed narrative. Using hidden cameras, altered phones, and covert recording devices, he simultaneously captured more than 18 hours of exclusive footage: religious rituals, jealously preserved relics, mass devotion, indoctrination in schools, sacred monuments, public tears, private fear, and forbidden glimpses behind the regime’s carefully constructed façade. Moez becomes our witness—the man who walked through a world built on relentless propaganda and fear, and escaped with images the regime never intended the world to see.
The film is directed by Max Serio, an internationally acclaimed filmmaker whose documentaries are commissioned and broadcast by major global networks and platforms. His cinematic vision and journalistic precision transform Moez’s extraordinary footage into a narrative of unprecedented depth: the revelation that North Korea is not simply a dictatorship—it is a functioning political religion. A religion with a God, demigods, sacred scripture, miracles, relics, sacred spaces, martyrs, and an eternal enemy. This film tells the story of that religion through the eyes of the man who risked everything to witness it.
