70th Anniversary of the sinking of Andrea Doria

In 2026, the world will mark the 70th anniversary of one of the most haunting maritime disasters in history—the sinking of the Andrea Doria. On the night of July 25, 1956, in the dense fog of the North Atlantic, the Andrea Doria, Italy’s most elegant ocean liner, collided with the Swedish ship Stockholm. Within minutes, terror spread as the ship, a national symbol of post-war resilience, began to list dangerously. In a miraculous rescue effort, 1,660 passengers and crew were saved, but 51 lives were lost.

Seventy years later, new discoveries emerge. In 2023, the Museum of the Sea in Genoa conducted a groundbreaking underwater expedition, capturing exclusive, never-before-seen images of the wreck, which now rests 70 meters beneath the Atlantic. These haunting visuals, featured in this documentary for the first time, offer a rare glimpse into the final resting place of the legendary ship.

Produced by Picasso Film and SD Cinematografica, two companies renowned for their highly accurate historical reenactments, this documentary will bring the past to life with meticulously crafted dramatizations, blending historical accuracy with cinematic storytelling. Combined with archival footage, survivor testimonies, expert analyses, and cutting-edge CGI reconstructions, this documentary will reveal the full story—from the fatal miscalculations that led to the collision, to the heroism that defined one of history’s most dramatic rescues.

Seventy years later, the ocean still holds its secrets. This documentary will finally bring them to light.
